Timber Frame Competency Award Scheme

WorkbookWe have developed this training programme with CITB to provide recognition of the skills and competences of existing timber frame erectors together with raising the skill levels of any unskilled or untrained timber frame erectors to an acceptable level of competence which will support the NVQ achievement and CSCS registration process.

The programme will also provide career paths for timber frame erectors and assist young entrants to the timber frame industry. Over time the intention is to allow only those erectors who are qualified to erect timber frame buildings.

The process:

1

Register to participate in the scheme

Registration is currently closed for this scheme but more information is coming soon.

Once you have completed the registration form, you will be able to login to your secure online dashboard and this is where you will download the workbooks and request a test date and location. The login box is located at the top of the right hand menu on the STA website.

2

Download the Workbooks

Once logged in, there are three modules in the 'Silver Level' including:

  • Practical Skills Workbook
  • Knowledge Skills Workbook
  • Health and Safety Skills Workbook

You will need to download these workbooks which are in PDF format and complete the tasks asked of you. You must record the information/your findings on your hard copies as on the day of your exam(s), you will need to hand in your completed hard copy workbooks to your invigilator on arrival. Please note some of the tasks in your workbooks may require your supervisor to witness and sign off.

3

Request a date and your preferred CITB training centre

Once you have completed your workbooks, you will need to log on to your dashboard using your unique username and password and select your preferred date and test centre location to complete the online test/questionnaire.

A member of the team will contact you to confirm your test date, time and venue.

For convenience, you may choose to sit all three module tests in one day or select different days for each individual module.

4

Complete the module tests at your local training centre

On the day of your exam(s), you will need to hand in your completed hard copy workbooks to your invigilator on arrival.

You will then be given access to the online testing system and at the end of each module you will receive your score, please see below percentage brackets:

  • 100% - 85% = Pass
  • 84% - 75% = Resit required
  • 74% - 0% = Fail

NB: If a resit is required, you have the opportunity straight after your test to re-answer questions you got wrong.

When you have successfully completed all three modules, a completion certificate will automatically be generated and you can download this from your dashboard.

This achievement is intended to be a stepping stone towards completing an NVQ and then gaining your CSCS card.
