Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard
The Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard has been published in pilot form and is available here. It is applicable to a wide range of building types including most sectors that STA members operate in. The standard should be understood by anyone who wants to either fund, procure, design, or specify a net zero carbon aligned building using an industry-agreed approach.
It sets out metrics by which net zero carbon aligned performance can be evaluated and targets that need to be met.
The standard also covers the approach to carbon accounting, reporting and submitting mandatory evidence to demonstrate that a building is NZC aligned, as well as the methodology for choosing to offset residual carbon emissions. |

STA Designer Training Scheme
As part of the skills and training development STA have been reviewing the process for designer training. This will provide consistency with the recently launched installer training programme.
A new work-book and assessment process which includes an online testing programme, that is open 24hrs a day, will be introduced early in the new year.
Furthermore it will also be in line with the requirement to demonstrate competency, the direction of travel indicated to us by the Building Safety Regulator and their desire to adopt the Golden Thread of information. More information on this can be found in the STA Building Safety Act insight document. We will keep you posted as to the progress and when you can register through the STA training portal to participate in this scheme. |

STA Assure V3
The new version of STA Assure is well underway for introduction in 2025. The new version will include the mandating of the supply of structural timber elements that have been tested, either by STA or by members or assessed by a UKAS laboratory. A new section will be included on Information Management which will help you with issues resultant from the application of the Building Safety Act. This will embrace guidance on the application of the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) [ https://www.cpicode.org.uk ] which is increasing in importance following the publication of the Grenfell Tower inquiry. A full explanation of these changes and clarity on what the requirements will be for 2025 will be published in November 2024.
