Knight Designs

Knight Designs exists to help your technical department, or to be your technical department.

Knight Designs was founded in 2019 by Toby Knight after 17 years in the timber frame industry as a Designer, Technical Manager and Technical Director for respected companies. We were set up to offer a professional, responsive and friendly consultancy service to the timber frame industry.

Our background lets us understand all scales of project — from self builds to multi-unit sites, care homes to apartment blocks — and the design nuances of each. We delivered over 69,000 m² of timber frame kit in 2025 across 267 units (up from 15 in 2019), the work overwhelmingly repeat business. A robust planning and quality procedure lets us manage your projects effectively, always with the factory and erect teams in mind.

Timber Frame Design — Detailed design in AutoCAD, Consultec and Advance Steel, with CADCAM outputs where required, ready for the factory floor. The devil is in the detail; we provide information that lets site operatives work autonomously.

Structural Engineering — We now provide timber frame structural engineering, so you can send us the whole package and simplify your workload.

General Consultancy — Once contracted, we consider ourselves part of your team: structural solutions at estimating stage, pre-contract attendance, design team meetings, and secondary checking of your timber frame designs.

Design Checking & Site Inspections — Timber frame structures can be complex; even when they fit geometrically, design, manufacturing or erect errors can surface later. We run a comprehensive inspection service — desktop analysis of all drawings ahead of a site visit, summarised in a clear, detailed report.
