01/12/2022

Staying up to date with the latest developments in structural timber can be a challenge. However, as the leading organisation for the structural timber industry, we’ve been busy working on our new website to provide an improved resource for those involved in structural timber and also those new to the industry. Recently launched, the new site provides a hub of technical guidance, research and test data as well sustainability and durability content for anyone from members and stakeholders, to insurers and lenders, contractors to the self builder.

The modern and refreshed look is designed to improve the user’s experience, allowing visitors to navigate this valuable resource easily. The new website forms an integral part of the STA’s wider branding update.

Andrew Orriss, of the STA, said: “The construction industry is ever-changing, and as such, it is crucial that important information and guidance is easily accessible for all visitors to our new website. The improved navigation throughout the website ensures a seamless experience, along with new sections that more thoroughly inform on critical aspects of structural timber construction.”

Document library

Our document library is an invaluable resource for members and non-members (some content is restricted to non-members) to support building with structural timber. The library is constantly updated so users can be assured that content is current and relevant and in accordance with Building Regulations and industry best practice. The purpose of the STA has always been to promote the increased use of structural timber in construction, along with educating and informing the wider construction industry, of which the new website will help considerably.

Why use structural timber?

The revamped ‘timber systems” section including “why use structural timber” contains a wealth of in-depth information relating to the different structural timber technologies, along with guidance on regulations plus details on testing and research programs. This section also focusses on sustainability of timber as a construction material and its wider benefits and why it is our best opportunity to achieve the UK Government’s net zero goals.

Support for insurers and lenders

The STA is committed to engaging with insurers and lenders to enhance the overall confidence in structural timber construction. This new dedicated section on the website, considers the information that is important to this audience, supporting with in-depth evidence-based research and informative guides.

Dedicated Self Build Section

According to the NaCSBA Custom & Self Build Market Report 2022, a third of people are interested in building their own home. The self build market continues to grow in popularity each year, but it is crucial to select an accredited build partner. The new STA website highlights the importance of using an STA member for your project and these can easily be researched through our ‘Find a Member’ tool.
