With an objective to drive product innovation and enhance quality, the Structural Timber Association has developed in partnership with CITB and Edinburgh Napier University a series of manufacturing workbooks to provide validation of the skills and competences of experienced timber frame manufacturers.
The Manufacturing Workbooks have been produced as a series of training modules covering Health and Safety, Knowledge and Practical Skills, which can be completed in the workplace or as part of a college based learning programme. The workbooks are aimed at timber frame manufacturers and all staff who are involved in the manufacturing of timber frame. Covering the key responsibilities that timber frame manufacturers are expected to meet, the modules encompass such topics as goods inwards, cutting of materials, assembling timber frame components, using mechanised and automated manufacturing equipment together with quality controls and preparing the timber frame products for despatch.
